Although
the first settlements in the Patuxent Region were the tobacco farms of
the 17th and 18th centuries, Solomons itself came into prominence after
the civil war. It began as a fishing community famous for its oysters
and shipyards. By 1892, Solomons was Calvert County's most important commercial
center. The town was firmly planted on the map during World War II when
it housed an amphibious training base through which thousands of troops
passed on their way to the beaches of Normandy. During the latter part
of this century, the Island has become more and more focused on the recreational
side of boating with marinas, restaurants, and charter boats flourishing.
Today Solomons is one of the most popular boating destinations on the
Bay. You
will still find the quaint, friendly atmosphere which attracted the first
settlers as well as all the conveniences of a full service boating center.
that the area Restaurants
feature seafood prominently on their menus. Spring Cove's Naughty Gull
Restaurant, situated on a picturesque cove on the north side of the property,
has arguably the best crab cakes in town, while your dining choices in
Solomons range from fast-food to gourmet. Spring Cove Marina is a 246
slip facility on close to 10 acres of property with an abundance of trees,
lawns, gardens and natural vegetation, making this one of the most attractive
marinas on the East coast. It offers the services and amenities you would
expect to find in a first class modern marina, but with the friendliness
of a family run business. The Location of the Marina could not be more
convenient. The Holiday Inn and The Comfort Inn are adjacent north and
south, the new Medical Center adjacent to the west, and within a short

Fast Food and more.
